HOW TO CREATE WEBSITES YOURSELF IN 30 MINUTES

Have you ever wished to create a website for yourself and need a guide to this? Here is your answer. What I’m about to take you through is about creating a real website. I mean something like goodluck.com, not goodluck.wordpress.com.
In the next few lines, I would be teaching you with the aid of screen shots, a step-by-step approach to create your website yourself in 30 minutes.  Your site would be up and running with less than N9000 ($45.36) spent to host it for the first 2 years.
I need to tell you that:
  • You don’t have to be a computer guru to do this
  • Neither do you have to pay anyone to do it for you
  • All you need is the ability to read and apply simple instructions
Now, let’s get started!

WHAT YOU WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS TUTORIAL

I have these bonuses for you if you could implement the content of this tutorial
  • Register a domain name for FREE and save N2 600 ($12.99) for one year;
  • Get a FREE Facebook advertising coupon worth N10 000 ($50) to promote your fan page on Facebook.
  • Get my ebook, What Your Site Needs. Its value is N6 800 ($34) but I’ll give you for FREE.
I have received a lot of calls from people requesting me to teach them how to create a site like this. When I started blogging about two years ago, I had no one to teach me this. Here is your chance to learn from my mistakes and implement these lessons.

KNOW WHETHER YOU NEED A WEBSITE

Do you want to build an audience? Do you want to promote your business? Do you want to land more clients? Do you have some ideas to share with the world? Do you want to sell your products and services? Do you care about landing speaking engagements? If your answer to any of the questions is YES, you surely need a website.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a student or teacher, an entrepreneur or a workman, owning a website is the thriller today. As a productive youth that has some stuff to offer the world, having a website is your best bet at being heard.

A WORDPRESS.COM VERSUS A SELF-HOSTED WORDPRESS SITE

There’s a wide difference between a worpress.com site and a self hosted WordPress site (wordpress.org). WordPress.com is free and has a lot of limitations that serious bloggerswouldn’t like.
It’s like squatting with a friend. You’ll have to live by his rules and there’re some nice things you wished you did but may not be able to do. If one day, your friend feels tired of your company, he’ll just simply send you off.
You can’t use customised emails (e.g., “info@goodluck.com”), plugins and premium themes. You can’t place adverts, post videos or do affiliate marketing. They post adverts on your site, without your knowledge. They could even delete your site mistakenly at any time. In short, you’re really not in control.
All it takes from you is to invest a little and control your own affairs. With a self hosted WordPress, you’ll have your own domain name (e.g., “goodluck.com”), your hosting account, customised email address and simply install the WordPress software on the domain. Think of anything on a website, you can do it with a self-hosted WordPress.

RESOURCES NEEDED CREATE YOUR WEBSITE

To have a website, you need:
  • A hosting account: You’ll need a Credit Card like those provided by Mastercard or Visa to buy this. (A Verve or Interswitch card can’t serve this purpose)
  • A domain name (I’ll show you how to get one for FREE below).

HOW CREATE A SELF-HOSTED WORDPRESS SITE

I host my own account with ipage and would therefore be basing this tutorial on that. I am sharing my recommendation link here, which earns me some money at no extra cost to you who click on it to get your site fired up.

1.  GET A HOSTING ACCOUNT WITH A FREE DOMAIN NAME FROM IPAGE

Your site ‘resides’ here online. Although, there are other web hosting sites, I can honestly vouch for ipage because of my wonderful experience with them so far. They have an excellent 24/7 Customer Service and freebies worth over $450 for you who decide to host your site with them. They remain one of the best web hosts in the world today. You sure wouldn’t be disappointed hosting your site with them.
ipage sign up iconCurrently, they’re running a promo with 77% discount. So, you pay only N9,000 ($45.36) for the first 2 years and they even give you a FREE domain name (other hosts sell a domain name for about N2600/$12.99). Just click the iPage linkand then click “Sign Up Now”.
NB:  Go to iPage through this link and NOT a Google search so that you can get all the bonuses I earlier promised. Otherwise, you’ll NOT get the full bonuses.
  • ipage select domainOn the next page after the click, you’ll be asked to select a domain name. Choose the “Register a new domain” option and enter your desired domain name below it. If you have a domain name previously, choose the second option. To make the domain name easier to remember, make it short and avoid numerals and hyphens. Click “Check availability”. If the domain name you chose is available, the next page loads. If not, you’ll be prompted to choose another one.
NB: Your domain name is your web address like www.ibnamoo.com. A domain name is said to be ‘available’ when no one is currently using it before you checked
  • ipage billing infoOn the next page, fill the billing information, which includes; your contact information, payment information and purchase information.
  • In the contact information, you fill in your name, address and zip code. Make sure your email address is correct as you’ll receive vital information through it. Note that the zip code of Nigeria is 110001 or23401 or 00176.
  • Under the payment information, you can either choose to use your credit card or Paypal. Whichever one you use, make sure you’re filling in the details correctly.
  • Under the purchase information, uncheck “Domain privacy,” “Site protection” and “Site Backup” as you don’t need them. Failure to uncheck them, would lead to additional charges. Finally, click “Checkout”. Clicking that signifies that you’re making payment of the total cost of the charges stated above it (The total shouldn’t be more than $48 if you had been following the preceding instructions).
NB: Your sign up may be declined due to reasons like insufficient balance or incorrect card details. If that happens, you may receive an email or a pop-up window from iPage offering you a discounted $1 per month plan for the first 4 months.
DON’T accept the discounted offer. If you do, you’ll have to renew at the high fee of about N17,000 after just 4 months instead of the cheaper offer for 2 years.
INSTEAD, come back to this tutorial and click the iPage sign up link to start again.
  • If the next page displays “Getting Started,” then your transaction is successful. You’ll be asked some questions (Just click “No Thanks” to skip them). On the next page, you’ll be prompted to buy some other things. Just scroll down and click “No Thanks“.
  • On the next page, click “Log In”. On the next page, choose a security question and answer, choose a password. In the box “Which website referred you?”, enter “ibnamoo.com”. Click “Save & continue”.
Congratulations! You’ve just got a hosting account and a FREE domain name.
NB: If you encounter any difficulty here, you can give me a call on +2348182129259. I’ll be pleased to help.

#2: INSTALL WORDPRESS ON YOUR DOMAIN NAME

ipage cPanelAfter you’ve logged in, you’ll be directed to the Control Panel (cPanel in short) of your hosting account. As it implies, the control panel is like the control room of where your site ‘resides’ online. You’ll see the various tools that could make site what you want it to be.
  • Locate and click the icon, “WordPress”.
  • On the next page, click “Start”.
  • On the next page, choose the version of your domain name without “www” and without “ipage”. Click “Check Domain”. The page prompts you that something already exists on the domain name. Check the box and click “Check Domain” again.
  • ipage install wordpressOn the next page, click “Show advanced options” and fill in your site name, username, password and email address. . It is advisable you either use an email address or a name other than ‘admin’ as username. The username cannot be changed later but you can always use a display name if you don’t want your audience to know your username The password could be the same thing as the one you chose earlier or a different one. The username and password will be your login credentials whenever you want to post contents to your self-hosted WordPress blog.
  • Finally, agree to the terms and conditions and click “Install Now”. Within few seconds, your installation would be completed.
With that done, WordPress is now installed on your domain name!

#3: LOGIN TO YOUR WORDPRESS SITE AND PUBLISH YOUR FIRST POST

wordpress dashboardThis is where you’ll first use the username and password you created during the WordPress installation process.
Your first post doesn’t have to be perfect. Just post anything that comes to your mind for a start.
  • Go to “http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin” (replace “yourdomain” with your domain name). After inputting the details, click ‘Login’.
  • The next page displays the dashboard, which is called the “back side” of your website from where you set everything that appears on the “front side”.
  • You can add a new post in two ways. The first option is that you locate  wordpress new iconat the top of your dashboard screen. Hover your mouse to it and click on ‘Posts’. The other option is to move your mouse to the left side of your dashboard screen where the menus are listed. Position the mouse on “Posts” and click “Add New” from the drop-down menus that pop out. The first is faster anyway!
  • On the next page, enter the title of your post in the first tab and paste the content of your post in the second tab. Click “Publish”.
  • On the next page, click “View post” to see the post you just published on the front end of your website or self hosted blog as it will appear to your visitors.
That’s good of you! You’ve just made your first post.
What next?
